Arms of Cyril Gilbert Lane

Blazon

Per chevron Or and Azure in chief two mullets Azure in base a chevron Or above a dogwood flower (Cornus nuttallii) proper;

Symbolism

The design of the shield is inspired by the arms of Colonel John Lane of Bentley, whose daughter, Jane Lane, was instrumental in facilitating Charles II’s escape in 1651. The stars are traditionally a symbol of achievement and hope. The dogwood flower is a reference to British Columbia, Cyril Lane’s place of residence and entrepreneurial activities.

Crest

Blazon

Rising out of a ducal coronet Azure a demi lion rampant Or armed and langued Azure gorged of a collar of maple leaves Gules and oak leaves Or holding in the paws a staff flying therefrom a banner of the Arms;

Symbolism

The lion, another reference to England, rising from the ducal coronet holds a staff bearing the banner of the Arms. The coronet is used as an insignia of the Manorial Society and recognizes Mr. Lane’s title as Lord of Shrewsbury’s Fee, acquired in 1993. The lion wears a garland of maple and oak leaves honouring both Canada and England.
