Symbolism

The hats represent wisdom and Confucian philosophy, whereas the crosses represent Christianity. Together, they represent Mr. Chiu's values, beliefs and faith. At the same time, they create a balance of Eastern and Western symbolism, a reference to Mr. Chiu's heritage and his embraced homeland, Canada.
