Arms of Carl Reginald MasonBlazonVert masoned Or on a pile reversed Or three pallets Vert; SymbolismGreen and yellow are the two principal colours of the Arms of Ontario, Mr. Mason’s home province and the site of most of his contributions to the community. The wall of cut stones is a pun on his name and also refers to Mr. Mason’s leadership as a “builder” in the Province. The pun on Mr. Mason’s surname is continued with the triangular shape which represents a mason’s trowel. The narrow green bands set on gold represent tilled and sown fields and refer to the agricultural heritage of the Mason family. |
CrestBlazonA hawk close Or gorged with a collar of laurel Vert its dexter claw resting on a closed book bound Sable edged Argent; SymbolismThe hawk symbolises the concept of the swift movement and represents the English and Scottish heritage of Mr. Mason’s immigrant ancestors. Known for the acuity of its sight, the hawk also represents Mr. Mason’s vigilance in responding to the needs of others in the spirit of the Order of St. John, of which he is a devoted member. The book represents both learning and faith. The collar of laurels honours Mrs. Mason’s paternal ancestry in Northern Ireland by using a symbol which appears in the arms for the Lowry family from the 19th century. |
